Where do the courses take place?

The courses are held online only.

How long will the course material be available online?

See the course description pages for details on access to archived course materials. Whenever possible, we include web links that will work indefinitely for many of the resources/assets in the course.

Who participates in MIT xPRO online courses?

Professionals with diverse personal, business, and academic backgrounds from around the world will participate. They include scientists, engineers, technicians, managers, consultants, entrepreneurs, students and others, and they come from industry, government, military, non-profit, and academia.

I have never taken a course on the MIT xPRO platform before. What can do to prepare?

MIT xPRO online courses are delivered on the edX platform. Prior to the first day of class, participants can take a demonstration course that was built specifically to help learners become more familiar with taking a course on edX.

Are there any technical or browser requirements?

Our courseware works best with current versions of Chrome, Firefox or Safari, or with Microsoft Edge. For the best possible experience, we recommend switching to an up-to- date version of Google Chrome. If you do not have Chrome installed you can get it for free here:

Who teaches the courses offered by MIT xPRO?

MIT faculty teach courses offered by MIT xPRO, and industry professionals who have made significant contributions to their fields participate as guest lecturers. Course description pages provide additional detail on the teaching teams per course as well as their biographies.

English is not my first language; can I still participate?

MIT xPRO courses are taught in English; however, we do not require TOEFL or other English proficiency tests for you to participate in a course. It is up to you to determine your comfort level with the English language if you wish to take this course.

How do I Register?

Go to, click on the course you would like to register for, and click on "Enroll Now." You may be prompted to first register for an MIT xPRO account if you do not have one already. Complete this process, and then continue with checkout and pay for the course. You will have access to the course material once the course starts.

If you already have an account through MIT xPRO, all you need to do is click “Enroll Now” and proceed to the checkout process.

How do I register a group of participants?

There are two ways to register multiple individuals at once.

  • Once the course is added to your cart, you can select the number of enrollments you would like to purchase. You can then pay using a valid credit card.
  • For a group of 5 or more individuals, you can pay via invoice. To be invoiced, please email with the number of individuals in your group and we will send you instructions on how to register. Please note that our payment terms are net zero, and all invoices must be paid prior to the course start date.

When will I know if I’ve been accepted into the course?

There is no application process. You will receive a confirmation email immediately after registering and paying for your course. However, access to the course and materials will only be granted once the course officially opens and payment has been received.

What are the criteria for admission?

There are no general admission requirements. Prospective participants are encouraged to check course description pages to see if there is any specific background knowledge required to succeed in the course.

How will I receive information about my course once I've registered?

Instructions for accessing the course site will be sent to all paid registrants via email by the course launch date. In order to receive these instructions, please add to your "trusted senders" list. If you have not received these instructions by the course start date, please email

What is the registration deadline?

Can I transfer/defer my registration to another session or course?

Admission and fees paid cannot be deferred to a subsequent session or transferred to another course; however, you may cancel your registration and register when the course is offered again.

Can someone else attend in my place?

We cannot accommodate any substitution requests at this time. Please review the specific course description page for the time commitment and course schedule to ensure you are able to participate in the course before you register.

I am a college undergraduate. Can I participate?

This course is designed primarily for post-graduate professionals, but university students are welcome to participate if they have the appropriate background. Please keep in mind that the courses bear Continuing Education credits only (CEUs), not credit that can be applied to a degree.

I am a high school student. Can I participate?

MIT xPRO courses are not designed for high school students but rather working professionals with industry experience. The MIT website lists several excellent programs for secondary school students.

How much does the course cost?

Costs vary by course. See the course description page for specific costs by course.

How should I pay?

Individual registrants must complete registrations and pay online with a valid credit card at the time of registration. MIT xPRO accepts globally recognized major credit or debit cards that have a Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express or Diner's Club logo.

Invoices will not be generated for individuals or for groups of fewer than 5 people. Payment must be received in full; payment plans are not available.

Are discounts available?

Discounts are available to select MIT industry partners such as Industrial Liaison Program (ILP) members and CSAIL’s Industry Affiliates Program members. If your company is a member of such a group, please contact your MIT liaison for information about a coupon code.

Are scholarships available for this course?

Scholarships are currently not available.
